Intellectual respectability required mental health, and it was becoming evident to me by then that mental health consisted of trusting everyone about everything as much as possible — and, for good measure, poking fun at anyone who didn’t. Especially to be trusted were the mass media, whose owners and personnel were not to be regarded as minions of the Establishment because, as they themselves used to attest with confidence, there was no Establishment in the United States of America. Only foreigners and paranoids believed that there was.
Intellectualizing and joking about paranoia was a favorite pastime of post-Beatnik, pre-Hippie Bohemian America — for reasons that were undoubtedly the result of coincidence, at least among individuals who did not want their sanity called into question.
An habitué of the Bourbon House, Chris Lanham, once entertained us with the diabolical theory that the psychological classification of paranoia had been developed by conspirators for the purpose of discrediting anyone bent on exposing them.
When his friend, Jack Burnside, suggested sharing this hilariously evil notion with a wandering conspiracy buff we called Crazy David — because he thought people like the Rockefellers and DuPont controlled the government — we told Jack the joke had gone far enough.

The very first reference to Stonehenge published on the web has be found. It is claimed to have been published 420 years ago:
You can clearly read the title of this book from the British Museum collection:
The Annales of England, faithfully collected out of the most autenticall Authors, Records, and other monuments of Antiquitie, lately corrected, encreased, and continued, from the first inhabitation untill this present yeere I600.
For some reason the British Royal Collection does not publish the title page of the later edition, and names this important historical work slightly differently:
The Annales of England, faithfully collected out of the most autenticall authors, records and other monuments of antiquitie, lately collected, from the first habitation untill this present yeare 1605.
“Corrected” turns into “Collected”, and there is no mention of the “Increase” and “Continuation” of the English Annals. And of course, as is often the case, the Latin letter “I” in front of the three Arabic numerals, turns into an extra 1000 years of Gregorian calendar dates.

Оказалось, это бедный и неграмотный антиквар 16 века, издавший и написавший много книжек, в частности, исторические хроники и подробное описание города Лондона.
Не ясно, чем он на самом деле занимался, но в 35 лет внезапно познакомился с известными антикварами, а через год уже издал собрание сочинений Чосера.
mudraya-ptica@lj обнаружила также книги полного тёзки или же исторического дубликата Джона Стоу, “простого члена англиканской церкви”, жившего около 200 лет назад.

01 INTRODUCTION
This is the late Kerry Thornley’s exclusive inside story — an unprecedented first person account of his involvement in the conspiracy to assassinate the President, and his long strange personal journey towards realizing its significance.
Kerry Wendell Thornley served in the Marines with Lee Harvey Oswald at El Toro Marine Base in California, in the spring of 1959. By July of that year, Thornley had been transferred to Atsugi, Japan — Oswald’s former outfit.
An aspiring novelist, he began writing a novel inspired by Oswalds’ attempted defection in Moscow that autumn.
Called The Idle Warriors, this fictionalized portrait of a disenchanted Marine in peacetime Japan who defects to Russia was completed well over a year BEFORE the assassination of President Kennedy.
The unpublished manuscript was turned over to the Warren Commission, and wound up in the National Archives. It was published for the first time in 1991 by IllumiNet Press.
After his release from the Marines, Thornley moved to New Orleans, where he participated in a number of discussions advocating the assassination of the President. When called before the Warren Commission in 1964, Thornley described in detail his relationship with Oswald, but omitted the incriminating conversations he’d had with others. (Vol. XI)
